Dee Dee & Nelson | Downtown Raleigh Engagement Photography
Session: 28 June 2019 | Posted: 13 July 2019

Apparently, karma-wise, I'm owed one session in personal-tornado conditions per year or something. Last year, it was food poisoning at Lindsey & Pete's engagement session; this year, disastrous rain on my drive + being a half-hour late + losing my keys at the end (but we'll get to that...) for Dee Dee & Nelson's engagement.
To be clear: Dee Dee & Nelson were awesome. They were calm and patient, looked pristine, brought great face, and had a ton of fun with each other. It was an unreasonably hot evening, even for late June, and you can barely tell—they look so cool and fresh. Wending our way through the Museum of Art Park was even hotter than City Market downtown had been, but stories and senses of humor kept it light even when the air itself was hard to breathe. What makes these guys the utmost champs, though, is that they stayed at the Museum of Art with me when I lost my keys, retraced all our steps with me—in the pitch dark on unlit trails—and offered to drive me all the way home when said keys didn't materialize. (It wasn't necessary, fortunately: big ups to Random Kind Citizen and Museum security officer Jason Hunt both for getting them back to me!) Plain and simple: They're good people.
And we are so excited to photograph their Old Lystra Inn wedding this coming fall, not least because it's in November and so the chance of sweltering heat is practically none! They are genuine, fun, kind, friendly, and goofy without being too absurd—the exact kind of people we love seeing have fun together, the exact kind of couple we just want to keep photographing! Until November, though, enjoy a selection of my favorites from Dee Dee & Nelson's engagement session, and congratulate them in the comments!
