Alex & Derek | A Surprisingly Traditional, Laid-back Woodland Wedding Throwdown at Spruce Pine Lodge in Bahama, NC
Wedding: 20 April 2019 | Posted: 11 July 2019
Some of the most heartfelt weddings we've ever attended have been the simplest: when couples make excellent use of their network of friends and supporters, pour time and effort into DIY'ing details, and minimize elements of traditional weddings that are unimportant to them, it allows them to really focus on what matters most to them: their chosen friend-families, their community, their marriage, their love.
Alex & Derek's wedding was exactly that, and we are so grateful to have been a part of it.
The traditional: Alex wore a perfectly fitted white lace dress; friends and family gathered to hear Alex & Derek exchange vows in a sweet ceremony surrounded by the greening spring grounds at Spruce Pine Lodge; bridesmaids, groomsmen, dinner, music, fun.
The less-traditional: Derek took Alex's last name! Alex walked her independent self down the aisle; all flowers and decor were DIY; beer pong was the night's chief activity; Derek got well and thoroughly roasted during toasts; and, of course, much colorful hair and many tattoos.
Love was the undercurrent for every bit of the day, though. Alex & Derek were so clearly grateful to everyone who made the day happen for them, thanking all their guests enthusiastically and deeply appreciating the time with their (rowdy and hilarious!) friends. We loved capturing the day for them and wish them a lifetime of joy and happiness together. Enjoy a selection of our favorites from the day below—scroll all the way to see the vendors responsible!—and congratulate them in the comments!
