The D Family | Durham Family Photography

I feel like I start a lot of blog posts this way, but: some people are just your people, you know? They share your worldview, your humor, your general approaches to life. (And, I mean, how fortunate am I that I get to start so many posts this way, since I'm working with so many of my people?!) Aubrey & Drew are definitely among My People, and I love every opportunity I get to hang out with them.

This time, I also got to spend the afternoon with their beautiful kiddos, which is its own adventure. Even mid-pandemic, kids are still kids: climbing slides, jumping off bleachers, eating lollipops, and being generally adorable. Aubrey and I share a lot of the same views, fears, ambivalence, and stresses surrounding womanhood and personhood vis a vis motherhood, but it's always refreshing to see the friends with whom I share this parenting ethos in action: they're all so good at it, even in the midst of the wild garbage tornado of our current world situation. The reminder that there are intelligent, conscientious people sending their compassionate, creative kids out into the world is heartening, and I'm always grateful when those people are friends.

Grateful for another opportunity to photograph these particular friends and their family, and looking forward to more of it in the future. In the meantime, enjoy a few favorites from their late September session, and send them some love in the comments below!
