Brittany & Kory | A Snuggly, Sweet, and Fun Family Engagement in Winston-Salem

This might have been the most thoroughly scouted session I have ever photographed.

Brittany & Kory are utter champs. For days beforehand, they were scoping out their intended locations, visiting them at the time we planned to shoot, and sending me pictures of what they were looking at. Y'all, it was awesome. Partially, it was super necessary—we planned a sunrise session (honestly my new favorite thing! more sunrise sessions please!) because they wanted to get some shots that included a visible moon in the sky: Kory proposed at night while they were stargazing, and they wanted to include an homage to that most important of moments in their session.

Besides that they're thorough and awesome, there are so many things I could say about Brittany & Kory. We first met Kory at the Carolina Weddings Show in Greensboro, where he was a lone dude scoping out vendors and tasting cakes among couples and groups of women. (Brittany was at school in Asheville at the time.) When all three of us got together to chat, I learned for starters that Brittany & I are bed-making kindred spirits. Literally no one I know cares as much about how they make their bed as I do—except Brittany! It's awesome—I don't feel so alone anymore! I also learned that Brittany & Kory have a long history, going to high school together (but not dating) and getting together in serendipitous circumstances years later. And, favorite tidbit: Brittany will complete her Doctor of Pharmacy degree a few months after their wedding; she's taking Kory's last name when they get married, and so will officially be the hottest new supervillain on the scene—Dr. Fear. Just. Just awesome.

Their Winston-Salem engagement session was incredible. Sunrise on the Greenway, near miss attacks by marauding turkeys, coffee and pastries at the awesome Camino Bakery, and some time spent getting to know their dynamic ten-year-old daughter, Ellen.
