Behind the Scenes: 2021
Posted: 20 December 2021

Okay. Here we are again, my friends. Another year, another journey through our many faces and weird light-testing poses. Another pandemic year, in which our behind-the-scenes action documented here doesn't begin until August——partially because anything I shot in the earlier half of the year, I shot by myself and partially because we had a baby in March. (Made for a few weird and messy and beautiful months!) Once again, Michael and I only had a few weddings together this year——the only documentation of us together at a wedding in 2021 is a very janky photobooth scan.
The real behind the scenes action, where Michael and I work hard to pull through for each other, was all the times that don't get documented: All the long days Michael spent managing both kids so I could take meetings and edit. The planning conversations we've had on walks around the neighborhood, while doing dishes, or over the heads of two screaming children. The days Michael stayed home from a wedding because our childcare fell through last minute. Hours of podcasts, both shared and separate. Exhausted wedding hangover days filled with coffee. Mornings filled with coffee. Afternoons working on separate things in the same room, filled with coffee. Our whole life filled with coffee.
Year after year——heading into our 8th year in business, in 2022——I am grateful for this weird and wonderful job: grateful for the flexibility to be home with my kids, grateful for the ability to make my own decisions, endlessly thankful for and humbled by and flattered by all the couples who trust us with their irreproducible memories. Knowing, documenting, and working with and for all of you is such a privilege.
One of my favorite things about our local wedding industry is all the amazing pros we get to watch work their magic for our awesome couples. So many of them are featured here! I had second and associate shooters working for me, and went second- and associate-shooting myself, more than feels average this year, so there are lot of other photographers here, too! In order of appearance, faces that aren't ours here belong to...

All that said, thank you ALL for the privilege and ability to keep doing this job. I am so excited to see what 2022 holds. Until then, though, here are our weird faces——enjoy them!

We love you all. We're grateful for all the joy you share with us and the trust you show in us. We can't wait to see what we can create together in 2022!
